Captains Log with Danny Evans (Nuneaton Lions)

The Lions roared to victory with a much needed good start to the season against local rivals Nuneaton Town.

Andy Yearby opened proceedings with a quick win against dangerous opponent, Steve Selfs snooker mate.  Bert Bassett soon followed up the Lions second success against Captain of the Toon, Danny Barr. Newnes, White and “The Stick” followed up to leave the Town trailing 5- 0 before their only success in the first half of the match with debutant Sean Orr losing out to Town opposition.  A luckless Paul Barnett handed his frame to Lions out of form Captain, Evans before the awe inspiring Ace Jase Page dished his way to victory to seven ball Haystacks of Rileys fame.  The dependable Shakin Boss added the eighth frame to the Lions score to leave them 8-1 to the good at half time.

Food consumption commenced and took centre stage as there was a lot of it and it were good.  That is until Page and Gosling noticed the spread.  Then it quickly disappeared!

Tricky Icky Singh lost his way in the tenth to hand a frame to the Town until Paul, The Fall, Webb produced a long pot to win the frame.  He does love his blacks! Steve the Stick Self then polished off The Digger to seal the win for the Lions. The Lions lost a bit of their intensity at this point and the Town picked up wins against Newnes, Yearby and a seven ball win for Mick Cool McCool against Bert saw the Town reach five.  They were prevented gaining a second point on the night by reverses for man of the match Ace Jase Page, Karlos White and a deserved debut win for Orr.  Final result 13-5 to the Lions.

The Lions look set for a steady season on the basis of this form although their next match against Rileys A will surely provide a sterner test.
