Leamington and England
Youth captain Phil Parkin was on cue to lift two of the countries leading
Youth tournaments in April. Phil beat the same player in both finals London
and England Youth player Frank Costello and by the 8 - 6 same score.
First up was Hertfordshire's
Premier youth tournament the Riverside Under 19's Pool Open...
Both Phil and Frank had been on
top of their game throughout the competition and a great final looked on the
cards... They didn't disappoint.. Frank raced into a 5 - 2 lead playing some
outstanding pool but Phil moved up a few gears and produced some top draw
pool to go 7 - 5 up... Frank pulled a frame back but Phil was in no mood to
let the title slip and took the 14th frame for a brilliant 8 - 6 victory...
Phil ended his seven year wait
to land this competition with some stunning pool... Once more he faced
England team mate Frank Costello and once more he beat him in an enthralling
final 8 - 6... Both Phil and Frank had been playing some terrific pool on
their way to the final.. So once again it promised to be a fabulous match...
Again they didn't disappoint... This time though it was Phil who stared well
and he raced into a 3 - 0 lead before his opponent got a frame on the
board.. He then went 4 - 1 at looked set for a comfortable victory. But
Young Costello was having none of it and promptly levelled the scores as he
looked to take revenge for the Riverside final defeat... Phil steady himself
to move 7 - 5 up, and had a straight black for the title but missed and
Frank cleared to go just one behind... With the pressure mounting Phil was
in trouble in the next frame but potted a great red which enabled him to
clear the tableand take the title... Phil later dedicated his win to his Nan
Peg that sadly passed away 3 days later...
Next up was the prestigious
Kent Youth Open...
