Gaz Calcott Pool Guru...

Pot as many Balls as you can!!!

Warwickshire Men's 'A' had a bad start against Worcester A as they lost the 1st section 3-8.

They fared better in the 2nd and 3rd sections, but lost them both by 6 frames to 5 giving Worcester a 20-13 advantage going into the final section.

Worcester quickly took the next 3 frames to wrap up the match with the final score being a demoralising 18-26.

On the bright side, there were some promising performances from Daz Lee, Ben Deeley, Paul Willis and Craig Sturmey who all won 3 out of 4.

Ben pictured being awarded the player of the match trophy – not bad for his first season out of the Youth team!!!!

Team: Karl Knight, Andy West, Scott Varden, Roger Hunt, Sam Mills, Rob Butterworth, Chris McDermott, Daz Lee, Ben Deeley, Paul Willis, Baz Hinde and Craig Sturmey

Both Worcester 'B' and Warwickshire 'B' were unbeaten coming into this match so it was always going to be close and always a bit of a grudge affair.

A couple of players missing for the B team provided openings for Steve Valentine and Dave Hegarty to get their first start in a county match as the team attempted to build on their 2 out of 2 winning start to the 2008 campaign.

True to expectations, Warks won the first section 6-5 and repeated that score in the 2nd section to go 12-10 in front. In came Mark Winham and Steve Valentine in the 3rd section which Warks once again won 6-5 to take an 18-15 lead into the final section.

Worcs made it 18-16, Russ Blinco took it to 19-16, Worcester pulled another one back only to see Mark Winham, Russ Harding and Benji all win to make it 22-17.

Up stepped Jason Page to double a great black to seal the victory for Warks B.

Thanks to the persuasive efforts of “Kaptain Katie”, the ladies had a full side for the first time this season!

Mind you, it didn’t make much difference to the score as they lost the 1st section 2-9, but made a good recovery in the 2nd section, just losing it 5-6. Worcester won the 3rd section 4-7 which left them needing just 1 more frame for victory as they went into the final section. Worcester won this section 4-7 too, giving them a 29-15 win overall.
