Bears V Northants 'B'

As some one said, this was going to be a long day.  The Bears started the day against Northants B, losing four out of the first five frames.  This must have woken them up. Lewis Deeley, Hazel Payne and Mike Meaney pulled three back. Tom Tully and Liam Moore put the Bears back in front to end the first quarter 6 – 5 Warwickshire.

The second quarter went the same way with both teams tit for tat ,some of the new Warwickshire boys hadn’t quite settled in. Half time score 12 all.

The third quarter saw Matt Smith, Lewis Deeley, Mike Meaney, and new signing Curtis Boulton, stand there ground and keeping the Bears to within a frame of Northants.  17 – 16 Northants.

Feeling this had gone on long enough  the Bears went up a gear. All the new guns came out blazing in the forth quarter, Ross Krupa spoilt Freddie Fudge’s chance of a clean sheet, and with a slight hiccup in frame 36 the Bears took 6 out of the first 7 frames with captain Hazel Payne aptly taking the winning frame. Super sub Curtis  Boulton, Tom Tully and vice captain Liam Moore finished off the Northants rear guard.  Final score Warwickshire  “B” 25  Northants “B”  19

Steve Martin opened his account, Kyle Bryne followed suit. Four more and at the half way stage the Bears machine was picking up speed. 13- 9 Warwickshire.

In the third quarter the Bears dropped only two frames, a convincing 9- 2 needing only one frame in the forth quarter for victory.

Matt Smith promptly took frame 34 for Warwickshire B.  Dan Payne took his third. Brandon Beard, only eight years old, and had  waited patiently all day for his chance, completed Daniel Betts misery by beating him in frame 38.     Final score Warwickshire “B”   28   Northants “A”  16
