Warwickshire ‘B’ v Warwickshire ‘A’ Match Report

After a shaky 4-frame start, it went 2-2 with Sam & Dan taking out Jamie & Luke C. We then stormed in the lead after taking the next 6 frames in a row (by Luke M, Luke B, James, Ben, Howard and Nick), but lost the 11th frame to Matt Smith, to win the first section 8-3.

Knowing that the end of the season is about 3 months away, we needed a big result against our Warwickshire rivals to edge closer to qualifying for the Inter-County Finals at Great Yarmouth next March.

Going into the second section, after 5 frames, we were 3-2 down(B team -Sam, Steve & Lewis), but thanks to Vivek, Howard, Nick, Dan, Ben and James, we won the section again 8-3, putting us into a comfortable lead of 16-6

A more positive start to the third section saw us take a lead of 3-0. A loss in the 4th frame, but 6 wins in a row again, from Luke B, Luke M, Dan, Howard, Ben and yet again youngster James (‘Wicked’ Willis). Losing the 11th frame of the third section, we ended up winning 9-2. By the end of this section we had won the match as we were 25-8 up.

Into the fourth section, James (who had won 3/3) had to be pulled out due to another commitment, allowing new youngster Matt Peel have the taste of his first county match.

Knowing that we had won the match, the section started even at 3 games apiece. Winning the next 4 frames in a row, including Super-Sub Matt, we ended up winning 7-4. Giving a final result of 32-12 to Warwickshire ‘A’.

Managers Report (Stokie): Was well pleased with the result, as we knew that it would be a tough match with Sam, Steve & Matt giving us a headache. The commitment and support from the team was fantastic. We must now concentrate on our final four games of the season against Northampton ‘A’ and ‘B’ and Worcester ‘A’ and ‘B’. If we can get good and positive results out of these games, then who knows, we could be at Great Yarmouth once again, 4th year in a row. So keep up the good work lads.
