Warwickshire youth “ A “ v Warwickshire Bears
Warwickshire Bears team manager, Mick Payne, reports on our Youth Teams first match of 2007.
Finally the season could get under way for Warwickshire youth. With three of their new “Top Guns” missing , the Bears were up against it more than usual with the “A” team pretty much at full strength.
Ross Krupa took the first blood for the Bears, but a 5 frame blitz put the “ A “ team in front . “A team Veterans” Lewis Deeley and Liam Moore pulled two back , but the upset of the section was the “ A “ team’s England player missing a relatively easy pot to hand Matt Smith his first county match frame win . Score 7 – 4 to the A team.
The second section was one of missed chances , Matt Smith being the only Bear to take a frame , everyone else was punished. Score at the halfway point 17 – 5 to the A team.
The Third section found Howard Bailie , Jamie Hobbie and Vivek Makh continuing the onslaught taking the “A” team to within three frames of victory , with only Daniel and Hazel Payne momentarily halting the impending defeat . James Willis took the “A” team over the winning line in frame 30 , beating a brave, but out of his depth, John Payne .
Final score , Warwickshire youth “ A” 31 - Warwickshire Bears 13.
There were some outstanding individual efforts on both sides of this “Local Derby” by seasoned players and newcomers alike and I believe, like my counterpart, Terry Parkin, that the score did not reflect the match.
Man of the match: Vivek Makh (above) 4 out of 4 for Warks “A” and Matt Smith (above) with 2 out of 2 for Warks Bears.
WELL DONE EVERYBODY , KEEP IT UP .
